Maybe visit Zenodo and login using GitHub? It has a step by step guide there.

regarding Zenodo, this is a nice guide I found: https://instruct-eric.eu/help/other/zenodo-upload-guidelines

the other thing that would be helpful is to remove the data files from the repo by editing the history, otherwise they'll be left on the repo and do not affect its size. The BFG tool can be used to accomplish this.
