text/code editor?

Great project! I've come to similar conclusions about BTF, and started writing my own text/code editor that overlaps a lot with this project (at least in theory). Have you considered using this as a text/code editor? It wouldn't need much in the way of rich text, but it would need syntax highlighting and line numbers.

so the rich text formatting is certainly capable of doing syntax highlighting.

Line numbering would definitely be possible, I could help with that if you want.

the big blocker at the moment however it's establishing a connection to the input service on Mobile & touch devices.

currently all of the text input is handled in a modifier, which works for desktop clients, we've mostly works for mobile as well, except lots of soft keyboard features don't work, such as: popping up the keyboard when asked to, auto complete suggestions, and corrections.

If you're interested in this project, I'd love to collaborate on fixing this last blocker!

after that I think it would be well suited for the use case you're thinking about.

That sounds great! Looks like our two projects have that modifier idea in common, too.

Here's where I open the soft keyboard and here's where I create the input session.

But, all of that is based on LocalTextInputService which I see is deprecated now. But it's a place to start. Yeah, I'd like to collaborate on this, it looks pretty promising!

Here's a screenshot of the current state of my editor, and an approximation with ComposeTextEditorLibrary... already pretty close.

So here's my todo list:

1. take google's advice: 'class TextInputSession : Any' is deprecated. Use PlatformTextInputModifierNode instead. and then work on integrating that into your library
2. re-wrap the syntax highlighting into an annotatedString (I built on codroid-textmate for this)
3. think about autocomplete ... do you have a UI in mind for this already?

Okay, using your code as an example I setup the deprecated TextInputSession and it looks like things are working well enough!

I also fixed some scrolling and other issues and put out a new release. I will take a look at drawing line numbers next. That should be pretty simple.

Oh man, I looked at replacing that deprecation for several hours and didn't make any headway. Basically internally they're just using TextInputSession underneath anyway. So what you did is probably best for now! Thanks!!

Oh that looks great! I've been working on a kmp library for syntax highlighting from TextMate grammars. I've tried a few different things but my latest best progress is to work on top of (https://github.com/haodong404/codroid-textmate) ... I've wired it up before but not in kmp.

This has a few footnotes: 1. it's android only at the moment. 2. It's just using 0.7.0 of composeTextEditor at the moment. But, it is using parsed .tmTheme and .tmLanguage files.
